Shoulder Girdle Pain
The shoulder is the most mobile joint in the body, explaining why it is frequently injured. The top of the upper arm (humerus) is ball shaped, articulating with a small concave surface creating the ball and socket joint. The joint isn’t very deep and therefore is mainly supported by muscles, ligaments and tendons. If an injury occurs at this joint it most commonly affects these supporting tissues, which can lead to shoulder pain.
Your chiropractor will take a thorough history, and examine your shoulder to establish the cause and diagnosis of your pain. In some cases they may feel more information is required and refer you for further imaging such as an x-ray, ultrasound or MRI.
Shoulder issues can often causes issues with muscles and joints extending into the neck, therefore this is also often examined. Nerves, muscles, joints, tendons and ligaments can refer pain to distant areas, and for this reason it is important a full assessment is carried out to establish the cause.
