Migraine
Migraines are usually described as severe throbbing headaches at the front or side of the head. Some people experience additional symptoms such as:-
Nausea
Vomiting
Dislike of bright lights
Dislike of loud sound
Alterations in appetite
Alterations in mood and libido

People usually start suffering from migraines in early adulthood. As many as one in five woman and one in fifteen men suffer with migraines. A vascular link has been drawn due to the tendency of them to occur in association with menstruation, early pregnancy, menopause and use of the contraceptive pill.

The type of migraine can vary such as:-
Migraine with aura – people often experience some warning signs prior to these eg seeing flashing lights
Migraine without aura – there is no prior warning symptoms to these starting
Silent migraine (aka migraine aura without headache) – No headache is experienced however the migraine warning signs (aura) are
Research has shown some migraines are brought on by certain foods such as chocolate, citrus fruit, tyramine-containing cheese and alcohol, especially red wine.
Frequency of migraines vary from person to person, some experiencing them several times a week and others can go years between migraines. There is research evidence supporting the effectiveness of Chiropractic manipulation and/or mobilisation treatment in migraine prevention.
